Do you set aside a certain amount of time everyday to blog or do you just wing it? I usually work in the morning and the evenings. However I write whenever my heart feels the need. I'm continuously active on social media. I would love to have a more scheduled day and that is something I plan on mastering this year.
How do you balance blogging, an Etsy shop, and being a stay at home mom? I don't think I have much balance in my life. It's a constant struggle for me. When you love what you do it's really hard but I will keep working at finding balance. During the year I have times when I'm busier then usual and I try to prepare myself for the busy times in advance. Sometimes I just say forget it all and pour myself a glass of wine.
I'd like to ask how you grew your following? Was it quick or did it take time? I think that all growth takes time. Being yourself and relating with your readers really does matter. Having good content and the occasional giveaway doesn't hurt either. Keep in mind that everyone's blogging journey is different and that's what makes this community so amazing. We are all in a different place but supportive of one another.
Do you work around your family's schedule? A little of both depending on the day. A lot of our life is blogged about so it makes it easy to incorporate our activities into posts. My children are very knowledgeable about what I do so of course work and family cross paths a lot. They could tell you exactly what tutorials, giveaways, reviews, and sponsorships are. They are super supportive and I love to hear them talk blogging.
What made you want to start blogging? What keeps you going? I was at the very end of my first pregnancy and a friend of mine started a blog. I was terrified of the idea but eager to share photos and updates with our family. My first post was His Arrival He is now seven! I love writing and marketing. This is my creative space and it's like a home away from home.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to open an Etsy shop? I would tell you of course to chase the dream but also to be realistic. My shop right now is more of a hobby and I think a lot of other shops are also. I'm sure you have heard of a starving artist before. Take your time and learn as much as you can about your market before you begin. Just because you love to create doesn't mean you will love having a shop. You can educate yourself and talk with other shop owners to help you decide what is best for you.
Do you prefer to write in the morning or evening?
I'm honestly most inspired in the evenings. Sometimes I'm laying in bed and it's the middle of the night and I just have to start writing. I usually use my phone as a recorder and just speak paragraphs as they come if I'm not able to write at that very moment. I'm sure it looks silly but I'm also the one who photographs a blade of grass for an upcoming post or my dinner before I take a bite.
Do you block out time for blogging/shop related work; or do you work around your family's schedule? I don't have a set schedule but would like to master one this year. I'm hoping by the end of this year I will have found what works best for me. Of course though being a creative person I have to allow room for unplanned projects and afternoons playing with my little ones.
